You know when Facebook feeds up posts from a year, two years, five years ago? For me, this time of year, I get previous paintings I've done of cherry blossoms. I've been painting them in April for the past six  years. I love these reminders that I return to the same subject again again.

Even though some of the late-blooming kwansan cherries are now mostly bare, their fallen blossoms are scattered like pink snow on suburban lawns. We had a huge kwansan cherry at our old house, much to the chagrin of our neighbor, who used his leaf blower to get rid of these remnants, as if the blossoms that had landed in his lawn were cigarette butts. I guess the cliche is right: Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder.
